Selam Everyone,

I have posted the following message a few days and I am posting it again just for a reminder.

I have not updated Ethiosports Website for the last few weeks because I am currently working on a project in Ethiopia, which is taking all of my time. However, I had a long talk with Mensur Abdulkeni and we discussed various issues. The decisions that we have come up with include:

1. To update the Website on a regular basis

2. To setup team pages for each of the Premier League clubs, including players profiles, photos, statistics, etc..

3. To post ONLINE domestic news & information from EthioSport Amharic newspaper as a PDF file every Tuesday

4. To setup a Questions & Answers section where those of us living abroad could send our questions to players, coaches, team managers, clubs, etc....and the answers could either be posted in Amharic or English.

5. To post LIVE results of key matches such as St. George vs Coffee, Coffee vs Mekelakeya (Mechal), Mechal vs St. George, and others

6. Updated Premier League match programs, game analysis and goal scorers' list

7. Setup a new and improved Discussion Forum, which will have better controls, for those who abuse their privileges

8. Interviews of key sports personalities and much more.

The list is not yet final because we want to hear from you and we need your input and suggestions. As you can see, we are ready and willing to go the extra mile to serve you better. However, this can only be achieved if we have one dedicated individual in Ethiopia whose main task is to concentrate and work on the Website. I have spent some time with Mensur the last couple of weeks and I can tell you that he is an extremely busy person. Therefore, it is crucial and imperative that we hire a new person, who will work under Mensur's EthioSport Gazetta, but whose task is to work on the Website only.

Once we all agree on what we are proposing, Mensur will take care of the recruitment process (posting the job opening on his newspaper, conducting the interviews and finally hiring the best qualified person). Obviously, the person needs to be paid on a regular basis. My suggestion is for those of us who live abroad to contribute either monthly or annually a fixed amount, which I can send it to him.

Suppose we agree to pay someone $100.00 (865 Birr) a month to do the job, we can have 100 people making $1/month or $12.00/year contribution. This is just an example and not my suggestion. However, if we fail to hire someone, then this website will not be updated. It is that simple.

So far, An and Genet (besides me) are the only ones who have expressed their desire to make a contribution, and I am sure there will be more of you responding in the next few days.

3. Genet- 5 Euros

I will be in Ethiopia until September 3. Therefore, it would be great if you can respond as quickly as you can so that I can work out the details with Mensur. The whole idea is to hire someone in Ethiopia who will solely concentrate his time 100% to provide us timely news & information, interviews, etc.. so that we can keep the website updated.

Obviously, the person has to be paid. Based on the discussion that we have with Mensur, the person's pay scale should be between $75-100/month (649- 865 Birr/month).

What I would suggest is to start the person at $75/month and see how he or she will be doing before deciding to give them a raise.

What would the person's expenses include you might ask:

1. Stadium Tickets
There will be at least two matches a week (sometimes 3) and at 20 birr/game for the tickets, that will come to 40 birr/week or 160/birr a month. This will obviously increase if there were 3 matches a week.

2. Transportation (Taxi)
The amount will depend on the proximity of the person's residence.

3. Going Online
The person will either has to use an internet cafe or Mensur's access to post the information online. Obviously, there is a cost to do that.

4. The person's time
Mensur has now correspondents in Tigrai, Harar and Awassa besides those working in Addis. Obviously when there are big matches in Adama and Metahara, he can easily send some of his Addis-based reporters there. The person who will send us news & info from Ethiopia will not only have to write his own stories and interviews, but will also translate those send by the Kilil reporters that I just mentioned. So, unlike before where eveything that Mensur was able to send us were news & info from Addis Abeba only, now we can get first hand information from Mekele, Harar, Adama, Metahara and the rest.

I really believe that paying the person $75-100/month is a great deal considering the many benefits that we can get.

So, the next question is how do we raise $75-100/month? It depends on the number of people who are willing to make very minimal monthly or yearly contribution. It could be as easy as 75 of us paying $1/month or $12/year as long as we can raise the money on a regular basis. The benefits is for all of us.

A cup of Starbucks' coffee can cost you this days at least $2.15 and I am sure for the hundreds of you who visit this site on a regular basis, paying half of that amount to get timely and accurate information about Ethiopian soccer at your fingertips will be too difficult to do.

The choice is ours.

What I will do then is to send the money monthly as long as the person who we are going to hire, continues to send us the news and information on a regular basis. That way, we will see how the person is doing.
